Youth Climbing Team

The Hi-Line Climbing Team

Welcome to the Hi-Line Climbing Center Team and Thank You for your interest in youth climbing in Great Falls, MT. The HLCT is dedicated to expanding and improving climbing for our area youth through dedicated programs and technical instruction in a fun and welcoming environment.

Mission Objective

Climbing is a terrific vehicle to expand your child’s horizons in the physical and mental realms, which can also become a life-long passion for fitness and adventure for the whole family. Climbing is a means unto itself, but for some, the thrill of competition adds a purposeful element that adds to the experience. For dedicated youth climbers, there is even the prospect of taking this sport to the world stage in international competitions and even the Olympics. For most, it adds an element of fun and a metric to track their progress or even simply to provide a fun group dynamic. Whatever the reason for joining, we are here to make sure you and your child have a fun and entertaining experience.

Team Outline

The climbing team is for children ages 7-17 years old. No experience is necessary to be part of the climbing team. Members of the team will learn teamwork, problem-solving, and functional strength from our experienced coaching staff. Whether they climb to win or climb to have fun, we have a team for that. There will be two levels on the team depending on experience and climbing ability. The coaches (and parents) and current team availability will determine who is at which level. Team members must purchase a gym membership to be on the team. Membership info can be found on our Membership Tab. Team members may use their membership to climb outside of regular practice times with adult supervision. Climbers must receive permission from Hi-Line Admin to attend different practices (it is dependent on space).

Call 406-315-1613 or email by clicking Drop us a Line.

Note: This is a drop-off program. Two staff members (1 coach, one front desk) will be on hand at all times to assist the climbers during practices. Outside of team practice times, children under 14 are encouraged to climb but must be attended by an adult at all times.

Competitions range in price from $25-45 and are not covered in team fees. Climbers will identify one or more of these competitions for which to train. Climbers may use their own equipment or the rental equipment of the Hi-Line for the competitions. Purchasing climbing shoes is highly recommended. In order to get the team members the best possible equipment, The Hi-Line is offering a 25% discount on all non-consumable merchandise for all active team members.

USA Climbing Membership

Climbers wishing to compete in USA Climbing Championship Level Competitions (Regional, Divisional, National) must have an active USAC membership prior to their first competition. The cost is $95 for the entire season (September 1st – August 31st). This includes the bouldering and sport climbing seasons.

New for the 2018-2019 season, USA Climbing will be offering the Introductory Membership ($20). The Introductory Membership will be applicable for all local competitions (Youth and Collegiate) in addition to National Cup Series competitions. The Introductory Membership can be used at multiple local events. You do not need to purchase a new Introductory Membership for each local event. The Introductory Membership is also good for both climbing seasons (Bouldering and Sport & Speed). Not to be confused with the Competitor Membership, the Introductory Membership is not applicable for championship-level competitions (Regional, Divisional, and National). If your competitor is planning on competing at any USA Climbing championship level competition, our recommendation is to purchase the Competitor Membership ($95) at the beginning of the climbing season and prior to your competitors’ first competition.

If a competitor purchases an Introductory Membership ($20) and then later decides to upgrade their membership to the Competitor Membership ($95), the fees paid for the Introductory Membership may not be credited toward the Competitor Membership.
